Qatar Law Forum Programme 

 

The Programme

The programme has been established with the assistance of Harvard Law School. The Forum will be highly participatory, the format including keynote addresses, eight main sessions, together with less formal networking sessions. The Forum will include focus on the role of the law in meeting the world’s current financial challenges, with sessions including:

  •    A discussion of the challenge of globalisation to justice in the 21st century.
  •    A debate about law and regulation in a time of financial stress.
  •    A dialogue focussing on the legal environment for corporate centres and financial markets.
  •    An examination of international dispute resolution methods in their legal and economic context.
  •    A conversation about women and the law into the 21st century.
  •    A debate examining the Rule of Law today.
  •    A discussion of legal reform in an Islamic context.
  •    A keynote speech on global governance.
  •    An explortation of the organisation of global and regional cooperation in trade and finance in the context of the global economic crisis.
  •    An examination of new trends in legal education development. 

The hosting of the Forum in the Middle East will allow the issues to be addressed both at a global level and in an Islamic context.

Cultural programme

The New York Times recently named Doha “Cultural Destination of the Year”, describing it as a “New Arts Capital”. The cultural centrepiece is the new Museum of Islamic Art, designed by IM Pei, which recently opened to critical acclaim. The cultural programme will include a visit to the Museum, and to the Souq Waqif.
